The minister of state for labour, Festus Keyamo, has said Nigerian’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has done well in job creation in the last five years.
Keyamo made the statement on Sunday, May 31, while appearing on Channels TV programme, Sunday Politics.
When responding to questions about how well the government has kept its job creation promise, Keyamo argued that the Buhari administration has performed well. The minister stated that the government’s efforts on job creation were not being noticed because Nigeria’s population grows faster than the rate of jobs.
“The population grows faster than the rate of job creation. On job creation, we have done creditably well,” he added. He said the government was making efforts to cushion the effect of coronavirus on workers Meanwhile, the federal government has given an update about its plan to employ at 1,000 persons from each of the 774 local government areas in the country. The minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo, announced on Thursday, May 28, at a press conference that the employment initiative will start by October 1.
He said the beneficiaries of the projects will be selected by special committees constituted in each state of the federation. According to Keyamo, the special committees would be tasked with recommending the names of the beneficiaries from each of the local government areas in the states to the ministry of labour. The minister disclosed that a website would be developed where the list of the selected beneficiaries and chosen projects would be displayed for the public.
