The former Governor of Ondo State in the 3rd Republic, Bamidele Olomilua is dead. He was 80 years old.

His death was announced by his Son, Olumuyiwa Olomilua.

Mr Olumilua died in the early hours of Thursday, June 4, in his country home, Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The late former Governor was appointed on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

That was when Nigeria had a two-party structure, SDP and the National Republican Convention (NRC). The two parties were established by former military President, Ibrahim Babangida. SDP was the party on which platform Chief MKO Abiola, the late unacclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 election contested and won the historic election.

He was elected Governor of Ondo State, Nigeria from January 1992 to November 1993 but was forced out office when another military government headed by late General Sani Abacha took power. His deputy governor was Olusegun Agagu, would later became the Governor of Ondo State from 29 May 2003 until February 2009.

Olomilua’s remains have been deposited
at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital morgue in Ado Ekiti.
