EXCLUSIVE: WHY NBET BOSS, MARYLYN AMOBI WAS SACKED BY BUHARI

The drama started long ago. She was even suspended by reinstated back into office early this year.
However, dgovscoops can authoritatively reveal that the last straw that broke the carmel’s back in this saga and led to the sacking of the Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company Plc,(NBET) Ms Marilyn Amobi had its roots in the altercation she had with members of the House Committee on Power when they went on Oversight function to the company.
The members accused her of being very rude and disrespectful and vowed to ensure her removal.
The threat came to fruition this evening as
President Muhammadu Buhari approved the removal of Amobi’s removal from office with immediate effect.

The Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, announced the removal of the controversial official on Monday evening.

The minister, in a press statement, said the removal was approved by President Buhari, and further announced the company’s General Counsel and Secretary, Nnaemeka Eweluka, as the new substantive boss of NBET “with immediate effect.”
Sometime in May this year, members of the House Committee had reportedly packaged a Motion for her removal in office, a copy dgovscoops was able to access. But the Motion did not see the light of the day as the Speaker, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila was said to have advised against such since no concrete evidence had been adduced against her.

The Motion states as follows:
“Gross Misconduct and Insubordination of Ms. Marilyn Amobi, Managing Director of the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company”.
“The House notes that in line with the provisions of the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives, the Committee on Power is saddled with the responsibility of carrying out oversight on the Ministry of Power and its agencies, including the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
“Aware that the Committee on Power is in receipt of complaints and reports indicting the Managing Director of the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company and also aware that several anti-corruption agencies among which are the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation have earlier indicted the Managing Director, Ms Marilyn Amobi for corruption and mismanagement and despite the present Administration’s fight against corruption, she still remains in office with attendant damages to the Agency and the Power Sector in general.
“The House recalls that during the oversight visit by the Committee on Power to the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company, Ms. Amobi exhibited complete disrespect and disregard for the Committee;

“The House therefore resolves to pass a Vote of No Confidence on the Managing Director of the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company, Ms. Marilyn Amobi for incompetence, gross misconduct and lack of respect for constituted authorities which she exhibited during the Committee’s oversight visit to the Agency”.
