FG reacts to the Death of the Nigerian-American Activist, Oluwtoyin Salau

The murder of the 19-year-old activist Oluwatoyin Salau has gotten the attention of the Nigerian government

The Nigerian government has reacted to the murder of Oluwatoyin Salau, a 19-year-old Nigerian-American activist, in the United States.

Their reaction was communicated through the chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, according to a report by Sahara Reporters.

The report said Dabiri-Erewa described the murder as highly depressing and cruel. She, therefore, called on the US government to thoroughly investigate the death.

The NIDCOM boss’ reaction was contained in a statement released on Monday, June 15, by the commission’s spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.

The NIDCOM boss also condoled with the family of Oluwatoyin.

Oluwatoyin who was a Black Lives Matter (BLM) protester was found dead days after she was declared missing in Tallahassee, Florida.

The City of Tallahassee Police Department on Sunday, June 14, said that they found two bodies on Saturday night, June 13.

Though the police never released the details of dead bodies, a close friend of Oluwatoyin has said that one of the found bodies was hers.

According to her social media presence, Oluwatoyin was last seen on Saturday, June 6, the day she wrote about how a man molested her.

“Anyways I was molested in Tallahassee, Florida by a black man this morning at 5.30 on Richview and Park Ave.

“The man offered to give me a ride to find someplace to sleep and recollect my belongings from a church I refuged to a couple days back to escape unjust living conditions,” she tweeted.

Rape is a grievous crime that has become rampant in Nigeria, when a girl is raped, she is left with a scar not only physically but mentally and the scar cannot be overemphasized.
