Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Hon James Faleke today on the floor of the House accused Minister of Employment, Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige of Official gross misconduct and abuse of office in the purported sacking of the management of the National Social Insurance Trust Fund(NSITF) board.
Speaking on the floor of the House, Faleke said Ngige sacked the management for failure to cooperate with him to commit series of financial malfeasance in the NSITF.
He said Ngige’s shady activities include but not limited to coercing the management to buy him vehicles. “A Landcruiser and Hilux was bought for him last year and he has already inserted Four Sport Utility Vehicles(SUVs) in the 2020 budget”, he declared.
Faleke stated further that the Minister got an Insurance broker imposed through his wife, Dr Mrs Ngige, a senior staff in the office of the Head of Service of the Federation from where the letter personally signed by the wife emanated from dated 6th of May and the Minister wasted no time in endorsing approval of the 100 Million Naira per Annum Insurance deal to the management of NSITF on 10th of May !
Hon Faleke said Ngige’s over bearing penchant to arm twist the management led members of the team to take a decision not to be part of the heist, a decision that did not go well with the Minister leading him to want to do away with them and getting in his own cronies.
He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Minister immediately for flouting extant laid down procedures guiding the removal of Management Team of Agencies and Parastatals.
The House of Representatives went ahead today to set up an Adhoc Committee to investigate the issues involved in the removal of the management team and other allegations.
The Committee is headed by Hon Miriam Onuoha from Imo State.
