Razak Ahmed

Zamfara State Governor, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle has lamented the lack of elders who could be a rallying point for the development of the region.

Matawalle said for the northern region to be united there is the need for an elder who commands respect amongst the populace and has the zeal for the development of the north and the country at large.

“Unfortunately, we no longer have elders in the north who can take a decisive stand about the region and would be accepted by the people,” he said.

The governor who was speaking shortly after distribution of 200 operational vehicles fully equipped with security gadget’s to security agencies operating in the state said most problems in the North could have been averted, if there was a accepted elder who guides and take decision for the benefit of the region.

Matawalle tasked parents to take full responsibility of giving their children and wards good character with responsive behavior.

“Our children needs to be guided and advise properly in their characters to curb all negative norms and enhance vibrant northern society, ” he said.

The governor said security of lives and property of the people remains a core agenda of this administration and therefore determined to do all it takes to bring back the glory of the state which has diminished over the years due to insecurity.

Matawalle called on the people to stop politicising the issue of security as security is the responsibility of all the people.

“I call on our people to extend their maximum support and cooperation to the security agents as they battle this formidable challenge. We must join hands to defeat the menace of cattle rustling, kidnapping and banditry, which over the years crippled our economic and social life as no society could progress in a chaotic security situation,” he said.
