Sad Loss of a National Trailblazer, An Okun Icon, A Kogi Pride and Gender Model

The sudden and untimely loss of Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile brings so much sadness and pain to is as a people.

This tragic loss to a nation, our state, and us as a people cuts so deep, even beyond expression. Our prayers go to Arotile family, Ijumu people, Okunland, Kogi state and Nigeria on what the Airforce has rightly described as an “irreparable loss”.

Tolulope’s passing is a truncation of a remarkable career and an incredible destiny. The legacy of her historic accomplishments at such a young age makes this even more painful, but paradoxically assuages and soothes our pain and grief. In life she demonstrated possibilities and showed herself as a leader to follow; and now in death, the bar she set has become a reference point and a standard to aspire to.

We are encouraged by the immutable Word of God, that in all things, He is in absolute control, and even when weeping endures through the night, joy comes in the morning.

To Tolulope’s family, I pray they will be strengthened by the Word of God, and his assurance that beauty will yet emerge from these ashes.

My deep condolences.

Babatunde Irukera
