The Federal Government says it has tracked the location and successfully rescued Nigerian girls trafficked to Lebanon which were caught in a viral video begging to be repatriated back home.
Reeling out the good news in a post on Twitter on Tuesday, August 4, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), said the girls have been moved to another location by the Nigerian mission in Lebanon. It would be recalled that in July 2020, video of the Nigerian girls numbering 30 surfaced online where they called on Government and prominent people to come to their aid.
“Good morning our Government. Please we are pleading to you. We are girls from Lebanon and we are stranded. All of us that are sitting here we are all sleeping in this same room. We are cooking our food inside here, everything we want to do we do inside this one room. “We need your help our Government. . . We all have regretted coming to this place already. We want to go back to our fatherland. We want to come home,” a female voice who recorded the video pleaded.
Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that the girls will be evacuated back home alongside 150 others awaiting evacuation from Lebanon. “Recall this viral video,? The girls have been located, rescued and moved to another location by the Nigerian mission in Lebanon. They will return along with about 150 others awaiting evacuation from Lebanon,” She tweeted.
Many Nigerians have hailed the agency’s swift response and thanked the Federal Government for the efforts geared towards locating the girls. “Your commission I must admit is the most effective and digitally engaging agency in this administration. God bless you Abike Dabiri for such focus leadership and all the NIDCOM staff. I’m so proud of your strides,” a social media user reacted.
