First Jigawa Military Governor Dies at 72

The first Military Administrator of Jigawa State, Brig-General Ola Sule has passed away.

According to Premium Times, Sule died on Sunday, August 23, at the age of 72 years. His death was confirmed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido in a statement he issued through his media aide, Mansur Ahmad.
Lamido, the second Governor of the State in the Fourth Republic described Sule as a great pillar and gentleman, adding that his loss is irreparable.

Lamido prayed to God to grant the soul of the former Military administrator eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus. The retired Nigerian army Brigadier-General was appointed the military administrator of Jigawa when the State was created in August 1991 under Ibrahim Babangida’s military regime. The deceased ruled Jigawa State for four months until he handed over to the first elected Governor of the State, Sa’ad Birnin-Kudu back in January 1992. Sule’s notable achievements include setting up the foundation for Jigawa’s infrastructural development. The first military administrator in 1996 was appointed the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 1st Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna.

He retired from the Army that same year and became captain of the Ikeja Golf Club.
