The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, September 22, presented Governor Godwin Obaseki the winner of the just-concluded Edo State Governorship election with a Certificate of Return.

This was disclosed in a tweet shared on the official Twitter page of the Independent National Electoral Commission. Obaseki won the Governorship election for a second tenure on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after polling 307,955 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who scored 223,619.

The certificate was presented to the Governor and his deputy, Phillip Shaibu by the National Commissioner supervising Edo, Rivers and Bayelsa States, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu at a ceremony held at the INEC office in Benin.

Recall that the Governor in reaction to his win at the Governorship election held on Saturday, September 19, said his victory has caged the lions and tigers permanently from the Edo politics. Obaseki, who made the statement while speaking at the Museum ground, King’s square in Benin City after a victory roadshow across various streets in the metropolis on Monday, September 21, hailed the people of the State for ensuring his victory at the election in the State.

The Governor assured that his Government would continue to pursue programmes, policies and reforms to better the lives of the Edo people.
