Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila is in a closed-door meeting with leaders of the organised labour ahead of the nationwide strike scheduled to commence on Monday, September 28.

The Nation reports that the meeting is for the last-ditch effort to convince the labour to shelve the proposed strike.
Dgovscoops learnt that the ongoing meeting comprises a three-man team from labour consisting of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba; the President of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Quadri Olaleye and the NLC Secretary-general, Emma Ugboaja.

Wabba was quoted to have said during the opening session of the meeting that the proposed strike was in the interest of Nigerians. Gbajabiamila, however, explained why labour should not go on strike in the interest of Nigerians. The speaker, who was at the meeting with the Chairman of the House committee on labour, Mohammed Wudil and the deputy House leader, Peter Akpatason, said shutting down economic activities through a debilitating strike would hurt more citizens the organised labour is seeking to protect. He said there could be a different way to arrive at the same result as the legislature and Labour are on the same page, pleading for more time.
