Bowen gets new Pro-Chancellor

Frontline Chartered Stockbroker, Deacon Oluwole Abegunde has been appointed the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Bowen University.
Abegunde succeeds late renowned industrialist, Deacon Gamaliel Onosode. Abegunde, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Meristem Securities Limited brings to the University’s Governing Council a robust wealth of experience spanning over two decades in both the public and private sectors.
Abegunde who holds Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics and Master of Business Administration is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) of Nigeria.
A boardroom expert, Abegunde is currently on the Council of The Nigerian Stock Exchange, Berger Paints Plc, Meristem Registrars Limited, FTN Cocoa Processing Plc and Etranzact International Plc and Integrated Diaries (Makers of Farm Fresh Yoghurt.
His appointment was hailed by the general public and University Community as a strategic move to reinforce the on-going growth and development of the institution.
Responding to his appointment, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulraseed Ilufemiloye assured him of necessary assistance for the development of the University and the entire Iwo Town, where it is located.
Abegunde reiterated his determination to work with all the organs of the University in order to move the fast growing institution to the next level. He commended the University Community for the efforts being made to uplift the school but challenged both staff and students to be more innovative and proactive in order to sustain the University’s competitive edge.
Prior to his appointments as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Meristem Securities Limited in 2003, Abegunde had worked for the defunct NAL Bank and served as the General Manager of Investment Center Limited, a subsidiary of Broad Bank of Nigeria Limited.
As an accomplished Capital Market Operator, he has a strong background in stockbroking, fund management, capital issue, registrar, brand management and credit appraisal among others.
He is an alumnus of many international financial institutions including the famous New York Institute of Finance.
