An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Kaduna State, Yusuf Ali, has cautioned Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, who is the party’s Chairman, Caretaker/Extra-ordinary Convention Committee , against extending the six-month tenure prescribed for the committee to hold an extraordinary convention to elect new leadership.

Ali, who made the call while speaking with reporters in Kaduna yesterday, said reports making the rounds that the Buni-led committee might seek an extension to reform the party, would be counter-productive.

“Majority of the party members indeed welcomed the Buni-led caretaker committee with open arms and the committee also enjoyed widespread support across the party especially when it began the reconciliation of aggrieved party members and leaders.

“We are aware that the committee has a six-month tenure to reconcile members.”

“However, four months down the line, there are speculations in the media on alleged moves by the Buni-led committee to seek an extension. I am appealing to them not to follow that trajectory even though the committee hasn’t refuted the media report.”
