The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Babatunde Irukera has bagged the Stardom Global Television (SGTv) public servant of the year award.

Other recipients of the SGtv awards are Hajia Aisha Dahir-Umar, the Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) as the D-G of the year and Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja as the VC of the year.

Others are Sen. Abiodun Olujimi who received the senator of the year award while Mr Segun Abolaji, Managing Director of the Leisure Court Estate, bagged the real estate of the year award.

Receiving the award in Abuja on Friday, Irukera commended the television station for creating a mechanism to assess the performance of public servants, which he described as an important thing for the government.

Irukera, also the Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, challenged the television station to periodically monitor the works of their awardees.

">

“It is good you periodically recognise those you think have done creditably.

“The only way we will continue to do well is that there are expectations that people are watching and will hold us accountable.

“The harder part of your work is holding us accountable and making sure that we adhere to standards that resulted to the awards,” he said.

">

The CEO said he looked forward to constructive assessment and criticisms that would make the award recipients to perform better.

Na’Allah commended the television outfit for the recognition and assured them of his efforts to do more.

Also speaking, Mr Omoluabi Adeyemi, Chairman of SGtv, said the award was the maiden edition.

He said the awardees had done excellently in the discharge of their duties in the public service.

“In spite of the mood of the nation, these individuals should not go unnoticed.

“One of the major reasons why an occasion like this will come once every year is because as a media organisation, one of our very basic fundamental responsibilities is to set agenda for national discourse.

“It is important for us to know that there is no nation without a challenge. Nigeria as a nation is not different from others.

“But I want us to understand that in times of challenges, the people that appear are solution providers,” he said.
