GOLDEN JUBILEE CORONATION ANNIVERSARY OF ALAYELUWA OBA (DR) LAMIDI OLAYIWOLA ADEYEMI (III) ALAAFIN OF OYO.
Gentlemen and Ladies.
It is with great pleasure and humility that I join people around the world in celebrating the golden jubilee coronation anniversary of the Alaafin of Oyo, Iku Baba Yeye, Igba Keji Orisa His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.
Oba Olayiwola Adeyemi III was coronated on the 14th of January 1971 by the military governor of the Western State, Brigadier Robert Adeyinka Adebayo. Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi is a descendant of the Adeyemi Royal dynasty of Oyo. Adeyemi Alowodu (I) was his grand father and ruled Oyo kingdom from 1876-1888 while the current Alaafin’s father Oba Adeyemi Adeniran ( II ) ruled from 1945-1955.
Oba Adeyemi is an accomplished insurance man and well read. He has consistently projected the culture and heritage of the Yoruba nation both locally and internationally and, thus making our culture and heritage a pride to the world.
Your numerous contributions in championing the cause for the agitation of state creation for your people is noteworthy. You fought so well for the kingship institution and achieved a lot for the sustainance of the traditional political structure of the country.
We appreciate your reservoir of historical knowledge and custom which will forever guide the tradition and conservation of the Yoruba culture
Kabiesi has always been a man of record breaking history. Today you have become the longest serving monarch in the history of Obaship in Oyo town, the longest Pro Chancellor of any University in Nigeria with your stewardship of twelve years as Chancellor of Usnan Dan Fodio University Sokoto. Your meritorious services as Chancellor of University of Maiduguri and ambassadorial role in 1980 as Amir-ul- Hajj to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabiai are worthy of commendation.
Oba Adeyemi is pliable to knowledge, a unique character trait that has stood him ahead and shoulder above his peers. Alaafin is widely read and published while filled with enormous capacity for knowledge and wisdom.
Once again ,on the occasion of the celebration of the golden jubilee coronation, on behalf of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Solidarity Vanguard, I wish to extend to your majesty our sincere congratulations and best wishes for yourself and your family, and my hopes for the welfare and prosperity of your subjects.
Finally in line with the culture of the Yoruba, I shall show my obeisance through the Oriki erudition in honour of his imperial majesty.
Praise The King of Oyo, a man that eschew death for living, companion of the gods-second to the deity; Alaafin of which rain must not beat ‘Sekere’- ‘A Calabash beaded/ cowrie-weaved musical instrument, the child of Atiba’; Lamidi is a King as his father was previously a King; Alafin Oyo, who swallowed 200 bullets like he swallowed yam powdered-made swallow food when crowned as King; Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi the son of Alaafin Adeniran Adeyemi, rise up to your feet, the celebrant of the day.
Kabiesi is a Commander of the Order of the Niger(CON) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a Justice of Peace( JP).
May His Majesty’s reign be blessed by Almighty Allah with long life and good health.
