A Non-Governmental Security-inclined organization, Searchlight Initiative for Community Peace, Advocacy and Rural Development in Nigeria has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Abubakar to continue with his good work and shun detractors who sees his tenure extension as abberation.
The group said the extension of his tenure is a mark of honour for his dynamic disposition to duty, corruption-free mien and a diligent leadership devoid of hate or partisanship but worthy of emulation.
You will recall that the tenure of the current Inspector-General of Police was extended by President Muhammadu Buhari after its expiration early this year to further consult for a distinguished replacement according to a release from the Presidency.
In a press release signed by Prince Akinloye Ogunmodede, the group’s Director General, it said that all security conscious men and women in Nigeria agree that under the leadership of the current Inspector-General of Police, security in Nigeria has improved tremendously despite the scarce resources available to the Police force, just as the welfare of men in line of duty have equally witnessed a boost.
“We are aware of the actions of some unscrupulous elements who are not comfortable with the action of President Buhari on the tenure extension of the amiable Inspector- General of Police. However. it is on record that over 13,000 promotions of both men and women in line of duty were effected under the leadership of IGP, Abubakar Adamu without recourse to nepotism or tribal inclination. The international exposure of officers for training under his watch were legendary, just as it paved way for reduction in crime and criminality.
The return of free and fair elections under his watch cannot be swept under the carpet with the morale of officers uplifted. It is just the right thing for the President to do to appreciate his outstanding efforts before a new man takes over the mantle of leadership”.
Ogunmodede asks for support for both President Muhammadu Buhari and IGP Abubakar in the war against crime and urged everyone to report suspicious movements of strangers in their communities to the nearest police post to curtail crimes.
“We advise Nigerians to stop all forms of religious or tribal remarks capable of breaching public peace and live in peace and harmony with one and other”, the group said.
