NCC to Commence Regulatory Intervention of Blockchain Technology Soon

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is set to start effective regulatory intervention of the blockchain technology in the country soon for it to have impact on the Nigeria’s economy.

Speaking at a Pre-Conference Workshop on Distributed Ledged Technology Focused on Blockchain, the Deputy Director, New Media and Information Technology at the NCC, Dr. Chidi Diugwu said that the essence of the pre-conference was to share information with stakeholders on the blockchain technology and further build awareness on it.
He said that the goal of the conference was introduced the technology to potentials users and service providers and to start regulatory intervention by the Commission to ensure that it is well regulated within an existing framework.
According to him, the NCC is interested in expanding the market as well as the growth plan of any technology stressing that the pre-conference workshop was intended to feel the pulse of the stakeholders in the industry of their awareness and understanding of the technology.
Diugwu disclosed that the NCC hopes to developed a robust road plan covering innovation, incubation and technology transition adding that the Commission is concerned about the market impact of the technology as well as its growth.
