NCC’s Head Media Relations Management, Omoniyi Ibietan Inducted Fellow NIPR

The Head Media Relations Management, at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Omoniyi Ibietan, has been inducted into the fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

Ibietan’s induction, came after a rigorous process that involved extensive thought provoking academic drilling by the Council of the Institute.

A doctorate degree holder from the North-West University, South Africa, Ibietan, was among the numbers of Associate of the noble Institute that were inducted into the Fellowship of NIPR, a highly desired status by professionals of the noble career.

The NIPR was established in 1963 and Chartered by Decree 16 of June 1990, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Practitioners Decree (now an Act of the National Assembly and cited as Cap N114, Laws of the Federation Nigeria, LFN, 2004).

His induction took place during the 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM) which held at the International Conference Center, Abuja.

Speaking at the AGM after his Investiture ceremony, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute, Mr Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo noted that new Fellows of the Institute were selected after a rigorous screening exercise of candidates aspiring for the Fellowship of the Institute by the Fellowship Advisory Committee.

In addition to the regular upgrade, the Institute had opened a special membership upgrade window “in response to the yearnings of members, to facilitate the processing of the upgrade of NIPR members who had lost precedence or proper categorization due to circumstances beyond their control”.

According to his Linkedin profile, Ibietan is a certified regulation specialist, multi-stakeholder relationship and communication management professional, and social entrepreneur.

He was formally , Head Online Media and Special Publication at the Commission, Senior Manager Media Management and earlier served the Commission as Senior Manager Legislative Relations at the Commission.

In that capacity, he was a frontline relationship manager of the Commission with the National Assembly (Nigeria’s Federal Bicameral Parliament).

Before he joined the NCC, in the summer of 2007, Omoniyi signed on with the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, set up its Corporate Communications Department and later managed its Media Strategy and External Relations responsibilities.

He now has the honour of having the fnipr title written after his name.
