Edo Gov in Trouble as APC Adopts Direct Primaries
Moses Oba
No sitting Governor in Nigeria wants direct primaries where all card-carrying members of a political party are allowed to vote to choose a candidate. Reason: It cannot be easily manipulated like the indirect primaries where only few select delegates are involved.
But that is the headache Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki would have to contend with in the coming days as the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC met yesterday and resolved to adopt the direct primaries option for the State.
Reports say the NWC also granted waiver to Pastor Ize Iyamu, seen as Comrade Adams Oshiomole’s preferred candidate for the Edo Governorship seat.
Oshiomole who is the National Chairman of the APC has had a tempestuous relationship with Obaseki, his enstranged godson.
With this arrangement, it would certainly take a miracle for Obaseki to secure a second term ticket.
No doubt, events in the following days, promise to be very interesting.
