There has been a massive sweep of senior officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by the Presidency following the suspension of its former chairman, Ibrahim Magu.
Presidential sources stated that the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Olanipekun Olukoyede has been suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari, DgovScoops reports. Apart from Olukoyede, not less than 11 other top operatives in the Agency were also suspended by the President. The source told journalists that the personnel were suspended “for various alleged criminal and corrupt infractions.”
Meanwhile, reports gathered shows that as the probe by the Presidential Committee on Audit of Recovered Assets (PCARA) on Ibrahim Magu continues, some top operatives of the EFCC were regarded as persons of interest. In light of this, the federal government has ordered the deployment of security and intelligence agencies at the headquarters of the EFCC in Abuja and all its offices throughout Nigeria.
As a matter of fact, the movement and telephone conversations of some persons regarded as “Magu Boys” were being monitored and restricted. According to a security source who spoke with journalists, “This is a very important investigation and we are leaving nothing to chance. All necessary measures are in place.” Added to this, looted assets recovered by the anti-graft commission are under guard, while files at the offices are also under close surveillance.
